Geological print stencils

I am using the BRM laser cutter at FabLab in Amsterdam to cut vinyl sheets to be used as stencils for painting and design.

Detailed description

I plan to use a series of large, laser-cut stencils to make a series of layered paintings and drawings. The image for the stencils was taken from a high resolution image of a slab of green marble. It depicts the mottled and swirling look of geologic features, a highly detailed and energetic, organic pattern. I posterized the original image in photoshop, then traced and cleaned up the file in in illustrator. Due to the large size of the final files, (each 93 MB!) I am working with the technicians at the FabLab to partition the files to become suitable for the laser program. As a whole, the stencil will be about 100cm×400cm. I will use it with oil paint on canvases as well as with graphite or ink on large drawing papers.
